About Me
A little about me and my approach
Silas Norum-Gross, LMSW, CASAC-T
New York

I am an LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) in New York State and am supervised by Andrea Cilento, LCSW. You can read more about her here.
I am also a CASAC-T (Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor-Trainee) in New York State.
Lastly, I have a Masters in Sociology, which helps inform a critical lens to my work.
I am a white, trans/non-binary, Jewish, anti-zionist therapist and social worker. As a social worker, I not only provide therapy, I am also well-versed on the resources available in New York and can provide referrals for other services and practitioners. My network includes not only other therapists, but herbalists, reiki healers and Buddhist nuns. In addition to working in private practice, I was a substance use treatment counselor in non-profit, where I worked with a diverse range of people practicing a wide spectrum of harm reduction. I am also in recovery and advocate strongly for destigmatizing this lived experience.
As a neurodivergent person, I believe in not pathologizing people and instead aim to explore the systems of oppression we face and how we respond to them. I understand that there are certain realities we cannot avoid and I don't pretend to; rather, I hope to face them head on and explore not only why we respond how we do, but how to make those responses feel less harmful. My areas of focus include identity exploration, anxiety and depression, ADHD, non-monogamy, sex worker-affirming therapy and harm reduction/recovery.
I am also a nature lover, a tarot reader and a born-and-bred New Yorker. I believe in being honest and genuine with my clients above all else and I only use specific modalities if all parties deem it appropriate.
